Review Policy

Updated August 10, 2012

Into The Morning Reads no longer accepts review requests.

I love writing about what I read so I am more than delighted for publishers and authors to send me books for review - so long as they are geared toward young adults. I try to be as unbiased and objective as possible when reviewing and strive to be positive and helpful with any criticism. I am very honest however and if I do not like a book for whatever reason, I will say so.

Books I read don't have to be advanced copies, I'll read recently released books, books from indie publishers that need to build a base of reviews, and just about anything else, as long as it's Young Adult.

FTC Guidelines
Keeping in line with FTC guidelines regarding endorsements and testimonials for bloggers, I wish my readers to know that many of the books I review on my site are provided to me for free by the publisher or author of the book in exchange for an honest review. I am in no way compensated for any reviews on my site. All opinions are mine and I am not required to give a positive review.

Use of My Reviews/Writing
The only acceptable re-publishing of my work (without my express written permission) is to quote or link to my review of your book on your website if you are an author. Also, fellow bloggers are free to quote any writing I post as long as credit in the form of a link to the original content is given. If you ARE an author & would like to use part of my review of your book to promote, drop me a line & let me know. I'm always flattered to be quoted!

What I Love To Read
These are the types of books I salivate over gravitate toward in the bookstore or library. They are like candy to me!

  • Dystopias, apocalypse/post apocalypse, natural disasters, sci-fi, fantasy
  • Mysteries, thrillers, suspense, conspiracy theories
  • Zombies, ghosts
  • Mythology, fairy tale, or classic literature retellings

What I Might Read
I almost never pick these up at the bookstore or library but I might read yours if asked nicely & with a really great explanation as to why it's not just another done to death idea.

  • Werewolves, vampires, Angels (fallen or otherwise), Dragons, Witches, Wizards, Mermaids
  • Ghost Whisperers, Vampire Hunters, Soul Stealers
  • And anything else that already has an epic, saga-esque counterpart or 50 other brothers & sisters from other authors.

What I Will Not Read
I either don't understand enough to enjoy these kinds of books or I feel they are inappropriate or boring so please don't ask me to read them because I will say no.

  • Any story that is highly sexually focused or contains excessive profanity
  • Any story that takes Christianity/the Bible & calls it mythology or twists it into something silly
  • Urban Fantasy, High Fantasy, Hard Sci-Fi
  • Romance, Chick Lit, Contemporary
  • High School Drama, Middle Grade
  • Non-Fiction, Poetry, Biography

Formats I Read

  • Paperbacks
  • Hardcovers
  • ARCs & AREs
  • eBooks & eGalleys (I have a Nook so PDF or ePUB format only)

Indie/Self-Pub Books
I LOVE indie/self-pub books. I have met so many awesome authors & read so many gems from that sector. So I DO read them. But please, if you are going to request a review from me, be aware that I also look for copy editing issues. Many indie/self-pub books don't seem to have had the TLC a copy editor can provide. I have a hard time enjoying a book with a lot of errors in it & find myself wanting to just put it down. So, please, don't hesitate to send an indie/self-pub book to me, just know I have a very critical eye for spelling, grammar, consistency, & proper punctuation & word usage. And that it will be a part of my review.

Star System

5 stars I loved the book. It was close to perfect and I tell everyone I know about it (and sometimes strangers too).
4 stars I really liked the book. I would definitely recommend it.
3 stars I liked the book. It's probably worth checking out for most.
2 stars I thought the book was okay but it didn't really grab my attention enough to focus entirely on it. I probably picked it up and put it down a number of times before finishing.
1 star The single star rating is reserved for books that were poorly written with plot devices that I either couldn't understand (and it takes a lot to confuse me) or really did not find tasteful.
0 stars I also can't imagine giving this out because I tend to enjoy at least some part of every book I read. However if the book is in extremely poor taste or nowhere near age appropriate I may give this rating. But I haven't yet!
